Yeah, Pep will be shitting himself, especially given the new donkey they've signed to play up top.

Every year when the fixture list comes out, I always think the same thing.....'how the fuck are we going to get 40+ points out of those games?'

Crap isn't it wd40
Some right depressing defeatist nonsense on here.
We had a real go at Man City end of the season, got a draw and could so easily have beaten them.
For sure we start the same and I'm looking forward to that.
I like that we're playing the league Champions first game. No problem, bring it on.

Pochettino will wait for the Geordie's to come calling. No penny pinching chairmen for Mauricio now.

I'm not saying that there's no such thing as "form". I'm saying that you should always take into account who the opposition are for any run of games, and any other factors, like injuries, etc. Like when we lost Fabianski for months and had no decent backup and we nosedived after being 5th in the league.

If pocchetino is interested, I’ll take a few defeats

Interesting way to look at things I suppose. Seems like you’re saying there isn’t really such a thing as “form”. That your skill level is determined at the start of a season by the squad you have and it’s just the fixture list that makes it look like your form is improving or dipping throughout a season.

I don’t believe any of that is actually true but it’s an interesting theory though.

Re: Leaked PL fixtures - Predictably Man City at Home first game
All I've been saying is that our form didn't suddenly tail off at the end of the season due to fatigue or whatever. We were top 4/5 for much of the time, in part due to how the fixtures went, and also because of how poor Man Utd and Spurs had started their campaigns. In the end we finished about where we deserved because, as you say, we hadn't invested in the summer, not because our form dropped at the final hurdle.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say?
We didn’t beat those teams in the first half of the season but with the investment we were expecting last season (Lingard, new striker, left back) we would have beaten those teams.

Basically, we are performing under our abilities because their is capacity and money to improve. We aren’t a championship club without a pot to piss in. We could actually invest. But we don’t. And it’s blatantly obvious a normal investment in the way our peers are investing would have seen us win a title or make champions league.

It baffles me why we aren’t making those investments.

so in our first six we've got 3 of last season's top 4, our bogey team and a promoted team playing their first home prem game in a generation.

given that pochettino is sniffing round for a prem job, i can see moyes becoming an early casualty if we start next season the same as we ended the last.

Brighton seem to have our number. No one should be going into playing them, thinking we SHOULD beat them.

Nagel 3:22 Thu Jun 16
Re: Leaked PL fixtures
That's all fair enough, 360, but doesn't really answer the question. We should have beaten Brentford and Brighton at home in the first half of the season, but didn't. Probably should have beaten Burnley away in December as well when they were awful, but not yet in a relegation dogfight.

Don't forget that we weren't the only club for whom the later games were serious. The likes of Burnley, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Man City all had as much or even more to play for than we did.

Given the seriousness of the games of these fixtures in the second half of the season. And our actual technical ability that had been proven over the last few seasons. We should have beaten all those teams. Especially looking at where they finished. We can’t have the mentality that we accept those defeats otherwise we are just treading water.

I feel like you should always look to improve. If you stand still your going backwards in this league. Your starting 11 in august should never be the starting 11 next August.

With Moyes that pretty much seems to be the plan from what I can see. Maybe he values continuity and experience gained. But I think that also comes with the downside of fatigue and malaise sometimes.

Nagel 2:28 Thu Jun 16
Re: Leaked PL fixtures
So, which teams should we have beaten at the tail end of the season? Outside the top 5 teams (who are all way better than us) the only clubs we didn't beat - Brighton, Burnley and Brentford - we hadn't beaten earlier in the season either, when fatigue wouldn't be an issue.

'I just don’t see the urgency from the club to solve issues. It never looks like they are bothered for some reason.'

All starts from the top, for me. No doubt Sullivan will be able to use the current economic climate as an excuse for sitting idle, or more likely he'll make Moyes or one of his media mouthpieces do it. 'We kept Rice and Bowen' will probably be the message they want to parrot, if they manage to.

It is a little worrying to hear nary a peep, still, about any new players aside from the centre back, but I must say unless Ogbonna is fucked it's hardly our position of greatest need or what the priority should be.

We’ll have to agree to disagree, Gammon son.

Never thought I’d see WHU in a major European semi-final. We was all disappointed with how it went of course.

But was great to see the club really go for it in Europe, whilst remaining competitive in the league.

Re: Leaked PL fixtures
It wasn’t just the stats for the tail end of the season that were worrying. It was the actual games themselves. How we played. Why we couldn’t beat the teams we should have.

They were all down to fatigue and lack of a decent bench to give us different options.

We aren’t bad when everyone is fit but we do lack a certain class of player for difficult games.

I just don’t see the urgency from the club to solve issues. It never looks like they are bothered for some reason. I don’t get it.

Nope the reality is we've gone backwards and it is only a great achievement because we didn't strengthen our squad and did it with virtually the same team week in week out......this has a recipe for disaster as it stands......hoping upon hope that we make the necessary improvements to squad numbers in the obvious positions lacking depth......
